Panix PPP service lets you use today's Internet software (Firefox, Safari, Opera, SeaMonkey Internet Explorer, etc.) over a dialup connection. It also includes a vast array of features and safeguards, and direct login to our UNIX servers.

Panix PPP Service:

PPP Service includes:

• National Dialup: PPP dialup access to the Internet through Panix, using modem speeds up to 56K in over 1100 locations in 33 states.
• 200 MB disk storage free with your account. Your files on Panix are kept on a RAID fileserver, for unparalleled protection from disk crashes. Frequent "snapshot" backups mean you can recover files that you've deleted by accident, in most cases.
  Extra storage space is also available.
  
• POP, IMAP, and Webmail access to your Panix email and NNTP access to newsgroups, from anywhere on the Internet. (This lets you use today's popular mail and news apps.)
• Access to a Panix Web server for a Web page, with 1 GB-worth of transfers per month included.
  (Additional charges apply for traffic over 1 GB/month.)
• static IP number and a hostname in the dialup.access.net domain upon request (for access to restricted sites, office networks with firewalls, etc.).
• Direct-dial and remote access to the UNIX shell, at the Full Shell level.

Panix ISDN Service includes everything you get with Panix PPP, plus dialup access on a high-speed, digital ISDN line. ISDN gives you lots of bandwidth (up to 128 Kbps in both directions) on a clean digital line for faster Web browsing and better response when teleconferencing or gaming.

Also, if you upgrade your account to ISDN, you keep your regular-modem dialup capability. So if you want to dial your Panix ISDN account but aren't near your ISDN line, you can!

Panix Single-User ISDN is available in these packages:

Details:

• Panix ISDN supports data-over-voice (DOV) calling for additional savings.
• Panix ISDN accounts feature dynamic IP addressing. Static IP is available upon request.
• Time is counted on a per-channel basis for metered accounts; 1 hour of connect time, with both channels open, uses 2 channel-hours.

If you want access to professionally-maintained UNIX hosts, or have an older computer without PPP capability, Panix can provide you with a shell-only account.

Panix shell services let you log into our "user hosts" and reach the full array of UNIX Internet applications and utilities on them directly. You can choose a full or limited shell, with or without direct-dial capability.

Please note: shell services do not support PPP connection, and are not compatible with Netscape, MS Internet Explorer, or other graphical Internet software.

Panix Shell Services:

Basic: Limited Shell with Direct Dial	$10/month ($100/year prepaid)
	Limited shell includes dialup in the NYC area only, and does not include interactive Internet functions (outbound FTP, telnet, ssh, rlogin, etc.)
No-dial: Full Shell, Remote Login Only	$10/month ($100/year prepaid)
	No dialup access at all; standard outbound Internet functions are available.
Inet: Full Shell with Direct Dial	$17.50/month ($175/year prepaid)
	Full shell with Direct Dial includes National Dialup as as well as local dialup and all the features of "Full (no-dial) shell"

All Panix shell services can be accessed from anywhere on the Internet via telnet, ftp, ssh, and the like. Direct Dial adds dialup capability, through a terminal emulator program. All such access is unmetered.

A Panix account provides more than just Internet access. Here are a few examples of what else is available:

Additional mailboxes:

Need more email addresses, for yourself or your family? Additional mailboxes are now available!

• Each additional mailbox is $5/month ($50/year prepaid).
• Email addresses are in the form "username@access.net".
• Each additional mailbox comes with 200 MB of RAID-protected storage. Extra storage space is also available.
  
• The mailbox can be accessed either with a standard POP or IMAP client, or through our new Webmail system.

Extra disk space

• Additional disk space on our NetApp RAID server is available in 200 MB blocks for $10/month per block. Just send email to accounting@panix.com.

Personal Web pages:

Personal web pages (on the "www.panix.com" server) are included with all Panix single-user accounts.

You can activate your Web directory by just calling the office, or by running the "charlotte" command from your UNIX shell. We have a set of instructions available to our users, which covers this and many common site maintenance tasks.

Some notes about Panix personal Web pages:

• Your page is allowed 1 GB per month of free Web traffic ("hits") from outside Panix (i.e. the panix.com or access.net domains). You'll be billed $10/GB of traffic your page gets beyond that (that's a penny per megabyte).
• If you choose, you can limit your page so that it shuts down after a set amount of traffic.
  Your page will become available again at the start of your next billing month, and this feature will ensure that you never be billed for transfers beyond your chosen limit. You may access this limiting utility via setup.panix.com. Look for the link beginning with "Limit web transfer charges..." under the Accounting section.
• Panix personal Web pages have full personal CGI privileges; check out the Panix Web FAQ for details.
• Files in your Web directory are counted toward your disk usage on Panix, just like all files you own on the system.
• Panix will not perform Secondary DNS for personal web pages.

MySQL database:

Panix offers MySQL as an add-on to single user accounts.

• $10/month ($100/year prepaid) per database.
• No setup fee

Security and encryption:

Panix provides a number of enhanced security options to its users. From the everyday safety of a hard-to-crack password, to "s/key" One-Time Password capability, to fully encrypted authentication and communication via Kerberos and SSH, Panix can help you protect your account from unauthorized access.

With a Panix single-user account, your email address and Web page are both displayed as part of the Panix service, in the "panix.com" domain.
If you'd like your email address and/or Web site to have a custom domain name of your choosing, Panix can accomodate you.

Panix "Cheap Web" domain hosting:

If you'd like your own domain name on your page instead of the "www.panix.com" default, but don't need all the features of a Corporate Web site yet, you can add a domain to your personal Web page.
