Restrictions on Shell Accounts
Panix customers are permitted to use their shell account for security testing - our usual rules, online at www.panix.com/rules.html apply.
Make sure you fully understand the test tools you are using, and do not do anything that generates large amounts of traffic (which would set off alarms at Panix) or that would be perceived as an infrastructure attack by your home ISP (such as port-scanning a range of addresses instead of only your home address).
You may not, under any circumstances, permit another person to use your account.
We don't meter time online, but idle connections are subject to termination after 20 minutes and the connection should not be maintained when the account is not in active use.
Dialup connections are designed to be used by people, not by machines. We do not permit continuous 24x7 dialup connections.
Multiple logins are not permitted via modem; we discourage multiple ssh and telnet sessions, and will, if circumstances so demand, terminate such sessions if they are idle.
(If you think you need permission for an exception to any of these restrictions, please send email to staff.)
