  Mozilla
  A very good open source Web browser designed for standards compliance, performance and portability. This is the full suite, containing these clients: email and chat; these applications: HTML editor, calendar and address book; and, of course, the browser.

  Privoxy
  A local (runs on your computer) web proxy for browsers. It can filter web page content, cookies, banners, and other obnoxious Internet junk. (See also the Panix provided proxy.)

  Thunderbird
  A relatively new entry into the mail client sector. Supports IMAP, POP, and SSL. Utterly free. Developed and maintained by a group under the Mozilla umbrella.

  Pegasus

  Eudora
  A nearly ubiquitous email client. Supports IMAP, POP, SSL, and Kerberos. Installs as either an ad-sponsored full version, or a free lite version.

  FreeAgent
  A good newsreading client. The free version of 'Agent' has some freeware limitations that it's commercialware older brother doesn't, but it is still worth trying out.

  NewsXpress
  A tiny, no-install, competent newsreading client.

  Gravity   A feature rich, very powerful newsreading client. The authoring company does not support the software anymore, and has made it freeware.

  Xchat
  An open source IRC client that has been been ported to several different platforms.

  Miranda
  Superb Instant Messaging client. Originally written as an ICQ clone, there are now plugins available for intercommunication between every major network.

  PuTTY
  Excellent SSH client that supports telnet, SSH 1 & 2, and port forwarding. Also available from the same author are SSH-keygen and SSH-agent clones.

  Smart FTP
  A powerful and feature-rich FTP client.

  Another powerful FTP client that has the added ability of encrypting the session over a SSH tunnel.
