Previews - Read Me First!!
(Look in the Control Panels. If you see TCP/IP, you have Open Transport. If you see MacTCP instead, you're using "Classic Networking".)
Non-PCI Macs don't need to use OT; if you've already got
Classic Networking on your computer and it works, you probably
shouldn't switch unless you're upgrading to System 7.6 or
higher.
(Instructions for Classic Networking can be found in this help
system, under Configuring MacTCP.)
If you're running a PCI Mac and don't have OT, you can
purchase an upgrade to System 7.6 or System 8 at your Apple
reseller, or download an upgrade to 7.5.5 from the Apple Web site.
(this upgrade only works on System 7.5 variations; if
you have a System below 7.5, your Mac probably isn't a PCI
PowerMac.)
If you're not sure what dialer you're using, here are some clues:
Open up the control panel and look in the bottom right-hand corner to see the type and version number.
If you have a MacPPP version below 2.6, you'll need to upgrade. You can download v2.6 from our Mac Software Page.
If you need help configuring your dialer, just follow these links to the document you need:
This document will just show you how to configure TCP/IP.
OUR FEATURE PRESENTATION:
Configuring the TCP/IP Control Panel for Panix
Go to the "TCP/IP" Control Panel. Before we begin configuring, go to the "Edit" menu and select "User Mode". Verify that the user mode is set to "Basic".
Now click OK to return to the main dialog. Set your TCP/IP control panel as follows:
(Some versions of TCP/IP will have "Starting", "Ending", and "Additional" fields. Just set them all to panix.com and you'll be fine.)
Restart your Mac so that the configuration changes will take effect.
That's all!
